Women in Urbanism Canada (WIUC) is a women-led community working to transform Canadian cities into more equitable, enjoyable, and sustainable places for everyone.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors is the designated volunteer committee that governs the affairs and business of the organization. It shall support the ongoing operations of WIUC and the development of new program areas.
Level of Commitment
The Board of Director terms are two years, and Directors can be re-elected for three successive terms. Directors are expected to attend a monthly meeting (1.5 - 2 hrs/month), fulfil an Officer or other designated role (2.5 - 6 hrs/month), and support general operations (2 - 4 hrs/month). The expected level of commitment is between 4 - 12 hrs/month.
This is a volunteer role, which should not take priority over one's health, well-being, work, or personal relationships. If anyone within WIUC is feeling overwhelmed or unwell, accommodations can be made.
Selection Process
Applications are thoroughly reviewed and candidate information is coded into a screening matrix that weighs various factors such as experience, area of focus, skills, location, demographics, languages spoken, etc. The top candidates are identified by the Governance sub-committee and are shared with the Board of Directors for review and approval. Select candidates will be called for an informal interview, and the recommended candidate will be subject to a vote by the Board and/or the Members.
